Things are a changin’

I haven’t been blogging as much lately as I have in the past, in fact it isn’t even as much as I would like.  You see, I have been making some long awaited changes in my life, which feels amazing, but it also means that I have had less time to create lately.

2015-06-29 13.02.48

These new changes are going to take a bit to get use to, especially since it means that I have to adjust to a new schedule and prioritize what I want and need to do.  I have decided to get up early (like 5 AM or earlier) so that I can get a run in on my new treadmill before it gets warm or my daughter gets up.  I want to be a healthier person so I am slowly making changes.  First up is getting exercise in every weekday.  So up I will be improving how I eat, but really it is one step at a time!

The bigger change is that I have decided to go back to school to get a Bachelor’s degree in business management.  This has been a decision that I have been wrestling with for a couple of years now, but I finally decided to start working on it.  This has been the biggest time commitment that is deeply cutting into not only my craft time but also my craft motivation.

So I will still be around when I have something new to share and I am hoping that within the next few months I will have settled in to a new routine that will help me to get some crafty time in addition to all my study time.

Capture Life–LMT

Today I have a new layout up over on the Love My Tapes blog.  This was a really fun layout to make and I just love how the tapes pop against the white background.

I don't usually have many masculine scrapbook supplies so sometimes creating pages for my husband take a little extra thinking and planning.  I grabbed a couple of scrap pieces of patterned paper, washi tape and cardstock to create this layout.

I first used my Silhouette to draw the stars on the background.  I then modified it and only cut out the inside of select stars to open up the carstock to reveal the washi tape below.

I also put three strips of the brick washi tape under the bottom of my picture and have it peeking out of each side.  I love the little bit of extra detail that it add to my page.

Tapes I used: Red & White Washi Tape, Black Skinny Chevron Washi Tape, Red Skinny Minnie Zig Zag Chevron Washi Tape, Brick Washi Tape

Supplies – Cardstock: Bazzill, Becky Higgins Project Life.  Tape: Love My Tapes.  Patterned Paper: American Crafts, Becky Higgins.  Digital Cutter, Software and Cut Files: Silhouette Cameo with Designer Edition Software and Cut File from Paper Issues.  Embellishments: Flair for Buttons, Scenic Route, Teresa Collins, Queen & Company.

So Loved–LMT

Today I have a new layout up on the Love My Tapes blog. Summer is just a few days away here and I am sure looking forward to some warm weather.  I am excited to share this layout with you today featuring some pretty floral washi tape.  I was so excited to get this roll of pink floral tape in my last order from the Love My Tapes store.  I couldn't wait to use it on my next layout.

I grabbed four rolls of washi tape, a piece of cardstock and a piece of background patterned paper.  The strips of washi tape make the perfect background for these pictures that feature my daughter last summer.

At first my die-cut title didn't stand out on my washi tape background, so after an extra layer of contrasting cardstock it now pops against the pretty washi tape.

Tapes I used: Taupe Dots Washi Tape, Pink Waves Washi Tape, Pink Floral Washi Tape, Copper Candy Stripes Washi Tape.

Supplies – Cardstock: American Crafts, Recollections.  Patterned Paper: My Mind’s Eye.  Tape: Love My Tapes.  Digital Cutter, Software and Cut Files: Silhouette Cameo with Designer Edition Software and cut file from The Cut Shoppe.  Embellishments: Heidi Swapp, The Paper Studio, Chic Tags, Studio Calico, My Mind’s Eye, Queen & Company.

Swimming Like a Fish–Picture This! Challenge

Today marks the middle of June and the last day of school here.  I can’t believe that the school year is already over!  Today is also the day that there is a new reveal at Picture This! Challenges.  I had a lot of fun creating this layout!  The challenge this time is: 1 Photo + Paint + Stencil.

I created this dot pattern stencil on my Silhouette and then taped it to my background page so I could use some acrylic paint to create the dots.  I love the look of the bubbles on this page!

A Scraproom Re-do!

It is hard to believe that we have already lived in our house for a year and I have already re-done my craft room/office.  My awesomely amazing husband has found a new hobby and this whole project was his idea.  He loves playing with wood and building things.  So he came up with this shelf idea to give me more storage since I like to have my supplies within reach when I am scrapbooking.  My room looks out into our great room (living room portion) so I can watch TV from my desk.  I don’t have a door, instead the room has an extra wide arched doorway.

So here is the view of my office from the great room:

Since this is also a “home office” I also have to keep all of the household office type supplies in here, so I love that he built the shelves to go around the file cabinet.  It also means that I have a custom cubby for my new printer.

2015-06-08 16.53.05

This is a picture of the left side of the shelves.  Since this was just built and installed last weekend I am still working out how things will exactly be arranged.  I am sure lots of stuff will move around as I start using them.

2015-06-08 16.53.15

Here is the right side of the shelves.  This side isn’t as wide as the left, which I love because this side holds more of my everyday scrapbook items.  I am sure these will move around a bit too, but I love that I can fit so much stuff on these shelves already.  Hmmm…Maybe I should label my washi trays…

2015-06-08 16.52.31

So this is the only bookcase that I kept behind my desk.  It is a nice solid oak bookcase that we got almost 5 years ago for about $10.  This now holds my cardstock and patterned paper on the top shelf.  The bottom shelf has two trays that hold my layouts that need to be photographed and put into albums.

2015-06-08 16.52.46

I put these two small cubbies on top of the oak bookcase.  These hold a variety of stuff.  I love the bins, that allow me to hide some of the small stuff without it having to be seen.  I have a small obsession with cute notebooks, so you can see the stack waiting to be used (I also have a basket of them on the top of a shelf).

2015-06-08 16.54.25

I love these cheap plastic drawer carts! I got the bottom one from Walmart for less than $20.  These hold all of my cardstock scraps (organized by color) and patterned paper scraps (organized by company).  This really helps me to use my scraps since they are within reach and organized based upon how I scrap.

2015-06-08 16.54.12

Here is another favorite…my aqua Ikea cart!  I am always changing how things are organized on here.  The bottom hold my ink pads and pens, the middle is my spray ink and 6x6 paper pads, the top is full of stickers, embellishments, thickers and such.

2015-06-08 16.53.58

This last picture is the wall next to my desk.  I think I will get another couple of scrapbook frames to hang up.  I will change out these layouts about once a year or so.  I love having different ones up.  I also love this grey and teal vinyl decal that I made with my Silhouette.  It really makes me so happy!!

Thanks for joining me on a tour of my updated craft room/office.  It really could not have happened without my fabulous hubby.  He is the best!!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

I love how this page started out with black, white and grey/silver.  All the color in this page comes from the embellishments and pictures.  I can always manage to find the perfect compliment to my project with the wide variety of washi tape patterns and colors available.

I wanted to create my own background with the washi tape, so I took three strips of washi tape from each corner and had them meet up on the page.  I didn't want it to form a perfect "X" so I just had them intersect in different spots.  I love that all the strips lead to the pictures.

I love how washi tape looks on a white background.  It really makes the patterns pop.

Tapes I used: Modern Art Washi Tape, Silver with White Star Washi Tape, Hot Pink Stripes Washi Tape, Black Roses Washi Tape.

Supplies – Cardstock: American Crafts.  Patterned Paper: Echo Park.  Tapes: Love My Tapes. Letters: Heidi Swapp, Teresa Collins, Simple Stories.  Embellishments: Echo Park, Simple Stories, Fancy Pants Designs, Teresa Collins, Heidi Swapp, Queen  & Company.

Awesome Everyday Moment

One of the things that I love most about my husband is that he is such a goofy guy.  It is almost always a good thing that he can make me laugh.  I love that he can make me laugh even when he is far away.

So I grabbed some fun bright paper and some washi tape to create this layout that features these silly pictures from my hubby.  I love that I was able to fit so many pictures on this single 12x12 page.

Supplies - Patterned Paper: Echo Park.  Washi Tape: Doodlebug, Recollections.  Embellishments: Heidi Swapp, American Crafts, Queen & Company, Recollections, Echo Park.
