The Best of 2016

As we say goodbye to 2016, I can't help but to think of all of the good things that 2016 has brought.  Now believe me, there were plenty of lows as well. I made great progress towards my degree in business management. As for scrappy news, I was a part of Scrap Our Stash for the whole year, I was a part of two terms with Stuck?! Sketches, and I joined the team at The ScrapRoom.  I have been working hard to share more scrapbook layouts on my Instagram account, because it makes me happy to scroll through and see my favorite pages, and really that square format is just calling for scrapbook pages!

So without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite pages from 2016:
Copyright: Cassie Wiscarson
I created this first page for Stuck?! Sketches.  I love that I used a picture from my childhood and that I was able to use so many scraps from my stash.

This second layout I created for the birthday celebration team up with Stuck?! Sketches and Just Nick cut files.  I love the large title and how I was able to use three other pictures as well.

Copyright: Cassie Wiscarson
I created this page for a book cover challenge with Scrap Our Stash.  I loved the triangles and all the embellishments too.  This was such a fun page to create!

Wood grain, cute die cuts and my cute sleeping puppy...what could be better!

I started with the pie chart cut file and used primary a 6x6 pad.  I love my picture and all the fun embellishments from Crate Paper.

This was a page I created for Scrap Our Stash.  What I didn't know when I created it, is that my husband will be out of the military shortly.  This picture is now even more special to me, especially since I don't have very many photos of him in his dress uniform.

I branched out of my norm here and I used these fun papers and embellishments from Imaginisce.  They were never one of my favorite companies, since I have never really been into the theme and cutest stuff...but I just love some of their recent products and this page has been one of my favorites since I created it.

This is a page I create for The ScrapRoom.  I get to mix their Shots of Life kit (designed for pocket scrappers) and the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit each month.  I love how this page turned out.  I spent forever hand stitching all those circles, but in the end it was totally worth it!

This is another page I created for The ScrapRoom.  I get to mix their Shots of Life kit (designed for pocket scrappers) and the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit each month.  I decided to create a grid style layout and these cards just make me so happy!

Copyright: Cassie Wiscarson
This layout is a layout for The ScrapRoom and Stuck?! Sketches.  Shortly after I left the Stuck?! Sketches team The ScrapRoom became a sponsor and we have been invited to team up with their team to create a layout using Laura's sketch and products from The ScrapRoom.  This is my first layout from that team up and it uses Jillibean Soup products.  I loved creating this page and even now I still adore it!

This layout for is for The ScrapRoom.  I get to mix their Shots of Life kit (designed for pocket scrappers) and the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit each month. This page features a Jillibean Soup collection and I love the angled grid design I decided to use.

TSR Teams up with Stuck?! Sketches

Once again this month The ScrapRoom is a sponsor for a challenge at Stuck?! Sketches and the design team has been invited to play along. I have enjoyed playing along with Laura's fabulous sketches after stepping down from the team.

I used the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and the Shots of Life kit to create this page.  I stuck pretty close to the sketch and just used a larger photo.  The warm tones in the photo work well with all of the browns and creams in the papers that I used.  I took this picture of my daughter looking through one of the many scrapbooks that are in my living room.  I love that she likes to look through them and I really wanted to document these moments!

Kit Combine Layouts (The ScrapRoom)

The ScrapRoom releases a variety of new kits each month.  It is always fun to see how the variety of kits can be combined to provide more supply options!  You can check out their blog for more inspiration from their design team.  If you love challenges come and join the Facebook Group for a new set of challenges that are revealed the first week of each month, also join us for chatter and tons of scrappy inspiration.

Each month I take the Shots of Life kit and the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and create two pages to showcase how well the add-on kits look together.  Now remember the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit included 2 extra sheet that match the four Flavors of the Month for a total of 8 extra pieces of paper.  The Shots of Life kit includes various goodies that work with the pocket pages, but on traditional layouts that means that there are extra embellishments for the pages.  Below are my two pages for December.

Copyright: Cassie Wiscarson for TSR
I always love how easy it is to combine the Shots of Life kit with the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit to create regular 12x12 pages. I combined the patterned paper in the Add-On kit from Bella Blvd’s Illustrated Faith line with the cut-apart sheet and stickers that were in the Shots of Life kit to create this page.  I finished it off with some enamel dots by Carta Bella that are also in the Shots of Life kit.

Copyright: Cassie Wiscarson for TSR
Last year we saw snowflakes exactly one time (in the photo) and it didn’t even really stick around.  I found the pink and aqua in these papers from Pinkfresh looked great with the Project Life cards and snowflakes in the Shots of Life kit.  I started this page by tucking different cards behind my photo to see what I liked and soon I found myself using just about every card because they were all so pretty.  The vellum pieces with the silver accents are so soft and pretty that I had to just keep adding them!  I finished it off with some twine (in the kit), some snowflake sequins (my stash) and I used my We R Memory Keepers little stapler to attach the vellum snowflakes.

This month I wanted to keep my pocket pages simple! This really helps to get lots of photos saved and into my albums.  For this page I used the cut apart sheet from Bella Blvd and their Illustrated Faith line.  I added “Love each other” sticker and the number stickers that are also included in the Shots of Life kit to finish off this page.

Copyright: Cassie Wiscarson for The ScrapRoom
This is my main Christmas page from 2015 and I love how I was able to add 8 photos on one 12x12 page.  The cards and enamel dots are from the Carta Bella cut-apart sheet and the numbers (small) are from Bella Blvd.  I didn’t like the stark white of the letters so I added some red stickles to them.  I finished off the page with the black year thickers from my stash.  I really loved this cute “wish list” card and loved how I had picked out 7 photos and it had 7 lines…this is what gave me the inspiration to number each photo and give a short description of each photo.

Blooming Fun With You (SOS)

It is time for the last Sketch + Challenge of 2016. It is so hard to believe that 2017 is just around the corner. These sketch challenges are always one of my favorites because they really seem to get my mojo flowing.  I really love how this sketch has a variety of paper and four photos.  I went with four 4x4 photos.  From the lists this time I used Bow, Glitter, Tag & Gold.  I decided to angle my block of photos but I kept the rest of my layout close to the sketch.

I created this two page layout as my recipe challenge using the My Mind's Eye page kit.  Remember, subscribers to the Doubleshot kit now receive instructions to create a two page layout from each page kit.  I have always loved the look of the decorated Christmas tree with the room lights off, so I created this page with that in mind.  I grabbed some of my favorite Christmas tree pictures from recent years to create this page.  I added the title using letter stickers in my stash.

I knew when I saw the sketch this month that I would have a hard time using it.  It isn’t my normal style and this page kit from Elle’s Studio (in the Doubleshot kit) has some bold patterns.  I decided pretty early on to skip that circle piece of patterned paper and swap it out for a red doily.  After I got my papers picked out, cut and put down I dug into all of the cute embellishments to finish off this page.

Jewel Thief (SOS)

Welcome to the LAST book cover challenge for 2016 over at Scrap Our Stash.  I have had a great time working with these challenges over the last year since they always seemed to get my mojo flowing.  I will admit some of them seemed to stump me at first, but it always led me to be inspired by it in some sort of fashion.

This book cover had me scratching my head on what to create.  It seemed obvious to make a Christmas page, but last year I decided I wanted to be an active participant and not just behind the camera.  The result of that is that I have almost no Christmas pictures and the ones I did take have already been scrapped.  I decided to take my inspiration from the title and more importantly the word STOLE.  So that is what inspired to create this page of my niece wearing ALL of the dress-up jewelry while visiting her grandparents.  I took a 6x6 pad and cut several pages in half so that I had 8 triangles.  I then laid them out so that the picture would be in the middle.  I used striped paper and then used sequins to create a rough circle around my photo and title.

We R Memory Keepers has a boy/outdoor line called “High Five” that can be found in the November Flavors of the Month Kit, the November Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and the November/December Shots of Life Kit. I combined the papers in the Patterned Paper Add-On kit and my left over cards and embellishments from the Shots of Life Kit to create this page.  Instead of using three photos, I decided to use one of the 3x4 cards.  I added some washi tape from my stash and some homemade enamel dots to finish off the page.

I love bright and colorful scrapbooking supplies and this line from Jillibean Soup did not disappoint.  Parts of the Chit Chat Chowder line can be found in the November Flavors of the Month Kit, the November Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and the November/December Shots of Life Kit.  I combined the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and the Shots of Life Kit to create this page.  To soften the grid feel of this page I added some of the stickers from the sticker sheet and used foam adhesive behind them to create more dimension.  I finished off this page with some washi from my stash and some enamel dots that I made.  You can see my tutorial here.

The November Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and the November/December Shots of Life Kit include goodies from the newest American Crafts line by Shimelle called “Go Now Go”. I was super excited to see that these were included in the kits because I have been dying to get my hands on it.  When I first saw this 12x12 sheet of paper with the “washi” style print I knew that it would make a fabulous background for a layout.  I then added some of the cut-apart sheets from the Shots of Life Kit to make a large block of patterns around my photo.  I finished off my page with some gold letters for my title and some bling from my stash.

The November Doubleshot Kit features this totally awesome boy line from Bella Blvd called “Alex”.  This line is perfect for teenage boys and features bright colors and graphic patterns.  I decided to use the Freaky Fast Friday (FFF) challenge on this page.  After I cut out all of my pieces I really struggled for a while to get it the different pieces to work together.  I decided that layering was the key here and I used the same pattern more than once to help limit the number of busy patterns I had on this page.  I then added some of the stickers and die cuts from the page kit before finishing it off with some wood stars, twine, title letters and enamel dots from my stash.

Mine (Scrap Our Stash)

November is here, Thanksgiving is just around the corner with Christmas just right after that.  Scrap Our Stash is back with a new sketch + challenge.  I hope this fun sketch will inspire you to get scrapping!

I stayed really close to this sketch because everything just came together after I picked out my photos.  I did add an extra embellishment cluster by my title to balance it all out.  As for the list items, I included Grey, Harvest Gold & an Index Card (tag).  I wasn't sure about including both grey and gold on my page, but the additional colors really help to pull it all together.  I hope you will join us at Scrap Our Stash this month!

The colors in the “High Five” line by We R Memory Keepers and the travel feel made this line perfect to create this two page pocket spread about a summer day trip we took.  I only used the one cut-apart sheet to create this two page spread and even had cards left over to create a regular scrapbook layout too.  Also in the Shots of Life Kit are these cute puffy stickers.

I couldn’t wait to dig into the “Go Now Go” goodies from American Crafts by Shimelle to create this pocket page.  The November/December Shots of Life kit comes with two cut-apart sheets and some die cuts from this collection.  When I create a pocket page like this one, I first pick out my pictures and put them in the pockets. Next I cut the sheets apart into cards and pick which ones I want to use.  I always add a title card and journaling card first, and then I fill in any other openings.  I picked the card on the right side and then picked out two of the die cuts and layered them to add more visual interest to the card.  Lastly, I added the title to the 4x6 card using letters from my stash.

It is the time of year when there several theme type of collections on the market.  Sometimes this can be frustrating if you don’t have the typical fall with an abundance of fall themed photos to use.  Instead, just think of it as an excuse to think outside of the box. The colors in this line looked great with these pictures I have from a trip to the Grand Canyon 15 years ago.  This month I used this “Falling Leaves” collection from PhotoPlay to create this two page layout.  Remember Doubleshot Kit subscribers now get a recipe to create a two-page layout with each page kit.  I added some title letters, enamel dots and the journaling card from my stash to finish off this page.

Be A Pineapple

The ScrapRoom is a sponsor for Stuck?! Sketches this month and the design team for The ScrapRoom was invited to play along with the sketch challenge.  I created this layout using some extra goodies I had in the November Patterned Paper Add-On Kit and November/December Shots of Life Kit.  I loved working with Laura's sketch this month and these fun supplies from Jillibean Soup seemed to be the perfect match with these bright and fun photos of my daughter.

If you play along with this sketch, make sure to link up with Stuck?! Sketches on their blog.  Join us in the Facebook group to show us your creation, especially if you use a kit from The ScrapRoom!

Out of This World Love (SOS)

I can't believe that it is already November!  I know that in the blink of an eye it will be 2017.  Luckily Scrap Our Stash is back with a new book cover challenge. I love how these get the creative juice flowing.  I find that as the holidays approach I seem to have less time to scrapbook, but it is when life gets crazy that I need this creative outlet the most.

I really enjoyed this book cover challenge.  I decided to use the color blue from the book cover along with the space theme. Once I decided to go with a mainly blue page I went looking through my printed photos to figure out what to use.  I found these two photos that have my daughter with two family members and there was a lot of blue in the photos and I knew they would be perfect!  I dug into my stash to find several shades of blue that would work well together.  I started with the cloud paper and went from there.  I am really happy with the blue and white color scheme of the page.  I ended up using 6 stars on my page and they really work with the space theme.  I can’t wait to see how you interpret this book cover challenge!

Epic Jenga Battle

I took so many photos this past summer that I see a lot more of these two page layouts in my future.  I took a lot of photos of us playing with this yard size jenga set that my husband and nephew made that I had a hard time even narrowing it down to just these six photos.  I love creating a block style design when I create a two page layout because it makes it really easy to tie the two pages together.

Explore the Beach with You

It is hard to believe from these pictures, but these pictures were taken on a July morning at the beach.  I loved the variety of tones in the greys and blues in the photos and decided to stick with that theme for the papers too.  I decided to use a sketch from Scrapbook Generation for this page.  I love how I was able to fit 7 4x6 photos on this single double page layout.

Enjoy layout

I started with two 12x12 sheets of patterned paper and a 6x6 paper pad to create this page.  I love the smaller print scale in the 6x6 paper pad because of how well the scale works when using my silhouette.  There are 9 different pieces of patterned paper on this page (not counting the rectangles from a cut apart sheet below the photo) and they all work so well together because of the scale.

Do you ever have a page that makes you so happy when you create it?  I had a great time playing with these fun papers and embellishments.  The colors make me happy, the cute embellishments make me happy...even the finished page brings a smile to my face.

Beauty of Snoqualmie Falls layout

Scraps...Do you have as many waiting to be used as I do?  Lately I haven't been looking through my scraps as much and that means that my scrap drawers are quickly starting to fill up.  I really need to start making more of an effort to look in my scrap drawers first.  For this layout that is exactly what I did.  I keep my scraps organized by company and pulled out these four pieces from various Bella Blvd lines to create the background for this page.

Yay Fun Girl

Hip Hip Hooray for some fun assignment free scrapbooking time.  I really love playing with some bright and fun colors when the weather here is all grey and rainy.  My collection of 6x6 pads has been increasing lately, which is because it always seems like such a good way to get the whole collection. Besides the background paper I only used a 6x6 pad for all my patterned paper on this page.

The other thing I have been loving on my pages lately is angles.  It just seems to add more movement to my page.

Fall is in the air over at The ScrapRoom.  The Carta Bella page kit has really traditional fall colors and patterns.  When I saw the kit I loved the tags that came with it and decided that I wanted to layer those on my page.  Of course, I am a sucker for the cut-apart sheet too.   I thought the leaf patterned paper was really cute, but with my photos and tags it felt a little busy, so instead I fussy cut some of the leaves to just add to my page as an embellishment.  To finish off the page I added this twine from my stash.

Reach to the Sky (Scrap Our Stash)

October is already half over and fall is in full swing.  That means it is time for a new sketch + challenge over at Scrap Our Stash.  A sketch is a great starting point when you aren't sure where to start.  After looking at the sketch I always then turn to the list items to inspire me on my page.  Some items require a little more thinking and planning on my part, but that is what always gets my mojo flowing.  I hope you will head over to the blog to see what the design team has created.  Make sure to play along for your chance to win the monthly prize!

For this month’s sketch + challenge I stuck really close to the sketch.  I loved the variety of papers this sketch uses.  I grabbed three photos from a one of our summer trips and started pulling out some patterned paper to get started.  For the list I used: Doodlebug (enamel dots), Diecut (the ampersand), Envelope, Flowers.  I hope you will play along with us this month!  I can’t wait to see what you create with this challenge!

I decided to create this page using the jump start sketch challenge.  I found this sketch super easy to work with.  Instead of the large circle I decided to add this fun die cut behind my photos.  I also changed up the 4x6 photo and decided to use 2 3x4 photos.  Once the sketch was rotated I would have needed a horizontal 6x4 photo, and all the photos I took of these cool pumpkins were verticals…so problem solved!  I paired the Bella Blvd 12x12 patterned papers from the Patterned Paper Add-On Kit with the Bella Blvd goodies in the Shots of Life Kit to create this page.  It really makes scrapping easy when the supplies are all from the same line.  This allows me to get more bang for my buck.  I love how the 6x8 papers are the same pattern but on a smaller scale, this makes them perfect for the text circles and the title card.  I finished the page off with stickers from the sticker sheet and some homemade enamel dots.

The Patterned Paper Add-On Kit also has papers from I Love Family by Echo Park to it made creating a page using the Add-On Kit and Shots of Life Kit super easy.  I really loved the hexagon paper and decided to do a strip of that across my page.  After all my papers were layered and I added my photos I then added embellishments included in the Shots of Life Kit and even cut some of them from extra pocket page cards.  I finished off the page with some star sequins from my stash.

I love scrapping family photos.  This past summer we did several short day trips and I am really excited to get this documented.  I might have went  a little overboard taking photos, because I was having a blast playing with my new lens for my big DSLR camera.  I immediately loved the colors in the I Love Family line from Echo Park.  I first cut apart the sheets of cards and then went busy figuring out which pictures to use.  In the end I created this two page spread using two different styles of pocket pages.  The Echo Park cards are so well designed that they can just be put into the pockets and the layout feels complete.  Simple can still look beautiful and finished!

I have never been good at remembering to stage a cute photo op of my daughter in her costume before Halloween.  So that means I usually end up with pictures that I don’t love, which makes Halloween one of my least favorite holidays to scrap.  This line from Bella Blvd that was in the Shots of Life Kit was so cute!  So I decided to dig through my digital photos to create a pocket page of my daughter going all the way back to her first costume.  The Shots of Life Kit doesn’t come with actual pocket page cards, but you get part of the 6x8 paper pad and I was able to easily create these cards in just a couple minutes by cutting the paper and adding some stickers from the sticker sheet.  In the end, I decided to just go with cute cards and leave off any space for journaling, but there are some papers that would be easy to write on.

Love You (TSR)

The ScrapRoom releases a variety of new kits each month.  It is always fun to see how the variety of kits can be combined to provide more supply options!  You can check out their blog for more inspiration from their design team.  If you love challenges come and join the Facebook Group for a new set of challenges that are revealed the first week of each month, also join us for chatter and tons of scrappy inspiration.

You asked and now you shall receive.  The Flavors of the Month Kit from The ScrapRoom come with recipes created by the design team showcasing each of the flavors as a two page layout complete with instructions on how to recreate the page yourself.  Now the Doubleshot Kit will ALSO come with these recipes.

These papers by Amy Tangerine for American Crafts are just right up my alley. I mean, I scrapbook my daughter a lot and pink is still totally her favorite color.  These papers just screamed fun to me, so I knew I wanted to use them with some of my favorite pictures of just her at the beach this past summer.  I still have a ton of pictures that I love, but these are all about what she loved at the beach!  The embellishments that came with this page kit in the Doubleshot kit are just so cute!  I loved the diecuts, washi tape and those adorable rubber embellishments!  I finished off the page with some homemade enamel dots and called this page done!

Best Friends Layout

I am sure this comes as no surprise, but I love taking photos.  Since I am the one usually taking photos it means that I am rarely in the photos.  On top of that my mom really does not like getting her photo taken so I have very few photos with her.  The fact that both of us are together in these photos make them truly special to me.  The reason I am saying this is because it is important to be in your photos and it is important to have these times with loved ones documented because memories fade.

These photos are from this summer and I love that they show my mom so happy.  What I remember most about this particular slice of time was my mom joking and laughing.  It is this moment that I will always treasure.  I couldn't wait to dig into some fun girly papers and embellishments to create this page about my mom and me.

Dreamy (SOS)

October is here and fall is in the air.  The chill in the air especially if it is cloudy or rainy always makes me want to hunker down in my scrap room and create.  When it is dreary outside I love to use bright colors because they always cheer me up!

It is time for a new book cover challenge!  I loved the masculine feel to the book cover and I drew my inspiration from the hat and the rectangle window.  I knew I had this silly picture of my husband in this pink floppy hat and decided to use it on my page.  I wanted to keep my main design vertically down the center of the page, just like the book.  I also added rectangles to mimic the feel of the window on the book cover.  As a final touch I added twine to the hearts and title.

Every City has a Story - FFF Challenge (The ScrapRoom)

The ScrapRoom releases a variety of new kits each month.  It is always fun to see how the variety of kits can be combined to provide more supply options!  You can check out their blog for more inspiration from their design team.  If you love challenges come and join the Facebook Group for a new set of challenges that are revealed the first week of each month, also join us for chatter and tons of scrappy inspiration.

The Freaky Fast Friday is one of these challenges.  The ScrapRoom provides a list of measurements and you provide the supplies and the ideas.  You cut your papers to the corresponding sizes and then play around until you like the arrangement.  Add your photo(s), title, journaling and embellishments to finish off your page...Freaky Fast!

I wanted to do the FFF challenge this month especially when I saw how perfectly the measurements would work with the September/October Shots of Life Pocket Page kit.  I added the patterned paper from the September Patterned Paper Add-on kit to create this page.  After deciding on the placement of the paper and pictures it only took a few embellishments to finish off the page.  The great thing with the pocket sized cards is that they can easily be added to regular scrapbook layouts as journaling spots or titles, like I did on this page. Extra details like the double hears and the green banner strips can be cut from extra cards to create your own embellishments.  The puffy stickers, paper clip and enamel dots are all from the Shots of Life kit.  I added the extra word strips from a previous kit.

September Cards (The ScrapRoom)

Today I am sharing 4 cards that I made from the leftovers from the September Patterned Paper Add-On Kit, Doubleshot Kit and Semtember/October Shots of Life Kit from The ScrapRoom.
The kits are jammed pack with lots of goodies that make scrapping super fast and easy!  After I created my layouts for the month I decided to use some of the extras to create some fun cards.
